Has over 20 years of experience across credit and financial analysis, regulatory compliance, sustainable and energy investing. His professional trajectory spans Latin America and USA.
Joel currently serves as Lead Consultant to private and public institutions where he is spearheading projects on sustainable and energy investing. He has also contributed to the development of comparative tools for ESG ratings and sustainable taxonomies, analytical frameworks to detect greenwashing, and proposals on climate disclosure regulations —all in support of a more transparent, accountable, and aligned financial / corporate sectors in LatAm.
In parallel, Joel is Deal Advisor with BTS Partnership, where he provides technical andfinancial guidance for sustainable infrastructure, mobility and renewable energy projects. He has conducted diligence on over 20 deals spanning solar, wind, hydrogen, and biogas—enabling capital flows into clean energy projects across Mexico, Chile, Brazil, Peru, and Colombia.
Joel’s foundational experience includes over a decade at Moody’s Investors Service, where he led the Structured Finance team in Mexico. There, he issued credit ratings across assetclasses—including housing, telecom, and transport—and played a pivotal role in crafting credit portfolio management assessments and liaising with both market participants and regulators. His work extended to authoring methodologies and presenting insights at high-level seminars.
Earlier in his career, Joel managed a local transfer pricing team at Deloitte Mexico,
delivering financial structuring for cross-border trade transactions and infrastructure development.
He holds an MBA from the University of Southern California, a Master’s in InternationalEconomics from the University of Essex, and a Bachelor’s in Economics from UNAM. He is certified in Sustainability Investing by the CFA Institute and is proficient in Spanish and English.
