Yi Yuan Chan
Financial Director | CFO | Cross-Border Investment Strategist
Yi Yuan Chan is a highly accomplished financial executive with nearly two decades of experience spanning public service, multinational corporations, fintech, and high-growth ventures across Asia, Africa, and Europe. Known for his deep cross-sectoral expertise, he has led finance functions for listed companies, IPO-bound startups, and government institutions—specializing in corporate governance, financial restructuring, fundraising, and multinational operations.
Most recently, Yi Yuan served as Head of Finance at Planar Investments (WeInvest), a leading wealthtech platform in Asia. There, he managed the full spectrum of finance, banking relationships, compliance reporting, and multi-market expansion into Thailand, Indonesia, the Philippines, and the Middle East. He implemented robust financial controls and supported platform certification across regulatory regimes (e.g., MAS, ABS standards, ISO).
Earlier, as Financial Controller for China Sonangol, a multinational in the oil, mining, and infrastructure space, Yi Yuan oversaw more than USD $1.5 billion in infrastructure investments across Africa—managing operations in Angola, Guinea, and Zimbabwe while integrating regional accounts into a unified SAP financial system. He resolved five years of backlog audits, advised on risk management for energy trading expansions, and coordinated with multiple African governments on infrastructure negotiations.
Yi Yuan has also advised on multiple IPOs and M&A deals as a Manager at Shinewing CPA Services, helping clients raise over USD $150 million on China’s NEEQ, and supporting cross-border diligence efforts in Japan and Korea. He began his finance career in Singapore’s Accountant-General’s Department, where he held leadership roles across the Ministry of Home Affairs and Singapore Civil Defence Force—supporting whole-of-government financial system reforms and shared services implementation.
Academically, Yi Yuan holds an MBA from Tsinghua-MIT (Global MBA), a Master in Wealth Management from the University of Luxembourg, and degrees in Economics and Accountancy from SMU, Singapore. He is a Chartered Accountant (ISCA), ESG Advisor, and European Financial Advisor (EFPA). Technically, he is proficient in SAP, Oracle, Temenos, Avaloq, Power BI, and Bloomberg, and fluent in English, Mandarin, Cantonese, with additional language proficiency in Japanese, French, and Hainanese.
Yi Yuan’s track record of leading finance teams across emerging and developed markets, combined with his policy advisory and digital transformation experience, positions him as a bridge between traditional finance, technology, and sustainable investment strategy.
